Former presidential aspirant and Roots Party leader, George Wajackoyah, has confirmed that he will contest in the 2027 Presidential election. Wajackoyah announced that he is currently solidifying his political support in Western Kenya before expanding his reach to other parts of the country.
The Roots Party leader, who is also affiliated with the Azimio coalition, made this declaration on Saturday during the burial of Boniface Ojiambo Mbunda at Buranga village, Butula sub-county in Busia County. The late Mbunda passed away in Arusha, Tanzania, on 31st July.
Prof. Wajackoyah revealed that he has initiated a series of meetings with the five Governors in Western Kenya, aiming to unite the people of the region, commonly referred to as the Mulembe Nation. So far, he has met with Governors Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega), Wilbur Ottichillo (Vihiga), Ken Lusaka (Bungoma), Paul Otuoma (Busia), and George Natembeya (Trans Nzoia).
In addition, Wajackoyah mentioned that he has extended his outreach to the Nyanza region, holding discussions with Governors James Orengo of Siaya County and Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o of Kisumu County.
Wajackoyah also voiced his support for the Gen Z-led protests that resulted in the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024. He emphasised that he had taken the anti-Finance Bill campaign beyond Kenyan borders, leading a protest in Dallas, USA, at the onset of the demonstrations. He criticised the bill for its potential negative impact on the economic well-being of ordinary Kenyans.
Known for his outspoken views on national issues, Wajackoyah expressed his solidarity with Kenyans both at home and abroad. He urged the diaspora community to voice their concerns and support the Generation Z protests, declaring, “We want to chase away fraudsters together with our young Generation Z.”
