President William Ruto has today directed the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to withdraw its circular on raising salaries for State Officers and senior civil servants.

Speaking through Statehouse Communication chief Huessein Mohammed, Ruto directed the National Treasury to review the Gazette Notice dated August 9, 2023, from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) regarding the remuneration & benefits for State officers in the Executive of the National Government, the Senate and national Assembly in the light of the  withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024 and the fiscal constraints expected this financial year. Ruto is reported to have emphasised that this is a time, more than ever before, for the Executive and all arms of government to live within their means.

Earlier, Ruto had sent the County Allocation of Revenue Bill back to Parliament for expenditure cuts and signed the Appropriations Bill, subject to an adjusted supplementary budget, to ensure funding for critical services following the rejection of the Finance Bill 2024
