Self-proclaimed revolutionary Kasmuel McOure went on a social media rampage on Sunday, fiercely clapping back at critics who dared label him a ‘sell-out’. In a fiery string of tweets, the activist-turned-singer denied accusations that he had been ‘bought’ by government insiders, challenging anyone with proof to come forward.
The drama kicked off after McOure failed to address a violent attack on fellow activist Morara Kebaso during an event at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday, 4th October. As Morara was unceremoniously booted from the hall, McOure, handed the microphone, shockingly chose to ignore the incident, sparking fury among his supporters.
Instead of condemning the thugs responsible for the attack, McOure stuck to the political script of the day. His silence didn’t go unnoticed, and by Sunday, his online critics had had enough, accusing him of dodging the real issue. That’s when things truly boiled over.
In one particularly savage tweet, McOure blasted back at the accusations, saying, “If I ever sell my integrity, I’ll be the first to announce it. If anyone has proof of what I’ve allegedly received, bring it forward.” He didn’t stop there, adding, “You don’t support me for who I am, but because it’s inconvenient for who you’re against. Let’s be honest.”
Things escalated as users threatened to ‘de-platform’ him, but McOure, ever the rebel, remained unfazed, saying, “Why would anyone threaten me with de-platforming? The real challenge is de-platforming me from your mothers’ hearts—they see through your nonsense!”
The backlash seems to stem from McOure’s association with controversial Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang, with whom he was spotted at the Bomas event. His choice to stand beside Kajwang, instead of calling out the attack on Morara, has left some of his supporters questioning his loyalty to the cause.
McOure first shot to fame in June 2024, amid the Gen Z protests, where he became a prominent voice against bad governance and Kenya’s Finance Bill. His outspoken activism earned him thousands of followers and turned him into a social media sensation. He even vowed to provide civic education to Kenyans on the importance of good governance, cementing his place as a people’s champion—at least for a while.
Meanwhile, Morara Kebaso, who’s also been gaining traction online, has taken a different approach. Kebaso has been praised for his efforts in holding the government accountable for stalled projects. He’s so determined to make a difference, he’s even launched his own political party, cheekily named ‘Inject’.
Adding fuel to the fire, a recent photo of McOure with opposition leader Raila Odinga has done little to quiet the critics, with many questioning the nature of their meeting. Is McOure still the people’s champion, or is he playing both sides? The jury’s still out… but one thing’s for sure, McOure isn’t backing down without a fight.
