Douglas Kanja Kirocho has officially assumed office as Kenya’s 6th Inspector General (IG) of the National Police Service, following his appointment by President William Ruto and subsequent approval by both the Senate and National Assembly.
In a brief ceremony held at the Supreme Court of Kenya, IG Kanja took the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy between 11:32 am and 11:38 am. The event was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, with several high-ranking dignitaries in attendance, including Vice Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, Dr. Otuala, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat, and DIG of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, who had been the Acting Inspector General. Also present were the Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin and Bernice Lemedeket, Secretary Administration/Accounting Officer.
Before his appointment as Inspector General, Kanja served as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service. His ascension to this new role marks domination of the top three ranks in the National Police Service by GSU veterans after the appointment of DIG Eliud Lagat.
