Former Raila Odinga Campaign Agent Files Suit to Stop Ruto Cabinet Vetting

Former Raila Odinga campaign and poll agent, Saitabao ole Kanchory, has filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the vetting and approval of President William Ruto’s nominees to the Cabinet. Kanchory cited President Ruto as the first respondent and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula as the second respondent. The lawsuit aims to obtain conservatory orders to halt the vetting of 14 nominees, which includes those nominated from the ODM and the previous Cabinet.

In his suit, Kanchory requested conservatory orders to restrain the National Assembly from proceeding with the vetting process, arguing that the nominations are unconstitutional. The suit was filed under a certificate of urgency in Malindi on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Kanchory’s legal action underscores the ongoing political tension and the scrutiny surrounding President Ruto’s recent nominations. The outcome of this legal battle could significantly impact the formation of the new Cabinet and the political landscape in Kenya.
