Machakos, August 8, 2024 — Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed all county departments to prioritize awarding government tenders to youth. Speaking during public participation forums on proposed amendments to the Machakos County Youth Empowerment Act (2024) in Mavoko sub-county, Governor Wavinya emphasized her administration’s commitment to Article 55 of the Constitution, which mandates the involvement of young people in national development.
“I have directed all departments to set aside several tenders exclusively for the youth. All youths in organized groups will be guaranteed access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO),” declared Wavinya.
Governor Wavinya also tasked ward administrators across the county with mobilizing various youth groups to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Additionally, she unveiled plans to establish the Machakos Youth Service (MYS), modeled after the National Youth Service (NYS), where recruits from across the county will receive training in various professional disciplines.
The public participation exercise aims to gather the views of young people on the proposed legislative amendments, which await final approval by the County Assembly.
