Wavinya Ndeti Denies Allegations of Money Laundering in the UK

By THE DISPATCH DIGITAL REPORTER

On Sunday, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti dismissed allegations that she had been detained abroad for involvement in money laundering. These accusations, suggesting she was arrested while attempting to smuggle millions of shillings into the UK, were categorised by the governor as unfounded and politically driven.

In a statement, Ndeti labelled the claims as part of a smear campaign orchestrated by her political rivals to discredit her leadership in Machakos County.

“My attention has been drawn to an online smear campaign designed by my political adversaries. This campaign is meant to undermine the transformative work we are doing in Machakos,” she remarked.

Governor Ndeti also questioned the credibility of the allegations, calling them ludicrous.

“It is insulting to the intelligence of Machakos residents and Kenyans to suggest that I would smuggle millions of shillings to the UK and be detained,” she said, adding that the alleged sum was Ksh679 million.

Reassuring her supporters, Ndeti affirmed that neither she nor her family had been detained or involved in any unlawful activities overseas.

“My family and I are in good health and remain in good standing, both locally and internationally,” she confirmed.

She condemned the false accusations, accusing those responsible of defamation and using online platforms to spread lies. Ndeti warned that the misinformation not only harms her reputation but also threatens her family’s safety.

“These malicious stories have endangered the lives of my family and me,” she stated. “Let the individuals behind these rumours be warned that should anything happen to me or my family, you will be held personally accountable.”

The governor reiterated her administration’s focus on delivering transformative projects in Machakos County, noting the completion of nearly 1,000 projects since August 2022 and record-breaking revenue collection in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, which hit Ksh1.7 billion.
