Veterans for Peace CEO Dr. Nelson Sechere Denies Alleged Sh20 Million Fraud Charges

Dr. Nelson Muakara Sechere, CEO of Veterans for Peace, found himself at the centre of a legal storm after being charged with alleged theft of goods valued at Sh16 million. Appearing before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego, Dr. Sechere firmly denied all charges brought against him.

First Charge: Fraud Over Goods Worth Sh16.9 Million

According to court documents, the first charge against Dr. Sechere claims that between July 1, 2024, and September 20, 2024, he conspired with unknown associates to defraud Kipkoech Mutai of goods worth Sh16,989,500. The goods involved reportedly included sugar, rice, and cooking oil. The prosecution alleged that Dr. Sechere falsely assured the victim he would pay upon delivery, despite knowing this was untrue.

Second Charge: Obtaining Goods Worth Sh4 Million Under False Pretenses

A second charge, dating back to December 6–11, 2023, alleges that Dr. Sechere, alongside others, fraudulently obtained goods valued at Sh4,026,700 from Caroline Mwoni Amusala. The goods allegedly included rice, jerrycans of cooking oil, and other essentials. The charge sheet suggests that Dr. Sechere led Amusala to believe there was a valid agreement with Kenya Veterans for Peace for the goods’ supply and delivery, despite knowing this to be false.

Bond Terms and Next Hearing

Dr. Sechere requested lenient bond terms, assuring the court he poses no flight risk. Following his plea, Magistrate Alego granted him a bond of Sh2 million with a surety of the same amount or, alternatively, a cash bail of Sh1 million. The case is scheduled for mention on November 4 as investigations continue.
