In the ongoing war against narcotics trafficking, smugglers are continually developing innovative methods to outwit authorities and conceal their illegal goods.

In a recent incident in Siaya, a bold trafficker attempted to send a suspicious package to Mombasa, using a nylon sack to hide the contraband. At first glance, the trafficker’s plan appeared flawless. However, as the package was being processed at the booking office, the trafficker mysteriously disappeared, raising suspicions for the sharp-eyed attendant. Realising something was amiss, the attendant promptly notified the police, who acted swiftly.

Upon opening the sack, officers uncovered an unusual sight – a top layer of raw bananas. But beneath the fruit lay a substantial haul: 245 long rolls of cannabis sativa, weighing 17.5 kilograms.

The confiscated drugs were quickly secured at Siaya Police Station, while an intense manhunt for the elusive trafficker is now in progress.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reaffirmed its commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and remains determined to stay ahead of the increasingly sophisticated methods used by these criminals.
