Notorious Traffickers Get 24 Years in Jail in Sh4 Million Drug Case

In a landmark ruling, two notorious traffickers, Hussein Otita Wakhayanga and Daniel Gor John, have been sentenced to 24 years in prison for their involvement in trafficking narcotics worth over Sh4 million. The sentencing follows a year-long trial at the JKIA law courts, which brought to light the extensive operations of the two criminals.
The duo was apprehended on May 22, 2023, along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway during a routine patrol by officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU). Their vehicle, a white Toyota Passo, was stopped in the Flyover area, where a meticulous search revealed seven sacks and eight packages filled with dry plant material. This material was later confirmed to be cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 161.75 kg and with an estimated street value of Sh4,852,500.
Following their arrest, the suspects, along with the confiscated narcotics and vehicle, were taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters. The case was handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), which conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the suspects’ arraignment on May 29, 2023.
During the trial, six witnesses provided testimony that ultimately led to the conviction of Wakhayanga and Gor. In addition to their 24-year prison sentences, the court imposed a fine of fifty million shillings each. The judge ruled that failure to pay the fines would result in an additional one-year imprisonment.
