Steve Marvin Njagi, a well-known suspect in Mombasa’s motor vehicle break-ins, has been apprehended after being linked to a daring theft that shocked the city. Njagi, allegedly the mastermind behind a June 6, 2024, break-in at Naivas Likoni’s parking lot, is accused of stealing KSh 1.45 million from a Nissan X-Trail (KDJ 505H). Njagi reportedly gained access by breaking through the driver’s door in broad daylight.
Following a coordinated effort by DCI detectives, Njagi was captured at his Nairobi hideout. The Lang’ata-based detectives handed him over to their Changamwe Mombasa, counterparts, leading to his swift arraignment at the Mombasa Law Courts.
Car prowling, a growing menace in urban centers, occurs when thieves target valuables inside parked vehicles. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continues its crackdown on such crimes, urging the public to take proactive steps such as installing anti-theft devices, parking in well-lit areas, and always securing their vehicles. The arrest of Njagi shows there are many more involved in vehicle theft, which is increasingly becoming more and ore high-tech.
