Gilbert Masengeli Takes Over Leadership of Administration Police Service
Nairobi, July 29, 2024 — Mr. Gilbert Masengeli has officially assumed his role as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Administration Police Service (APS) in a vibrant ceremony at APS Headquarters, Jogoo House ‘A’, Nairobi. This transition marks a significant moment for the APS as Mr. Masengeli steps into a pivotal leadership role.
Mr. Masengeli, alongside his counterpart from the Kenya Police, Mr. Eliud Lagat, was sworn in on July 25, 2024, at the Supreme Court. The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Justice. Martha Koome. Following their swearing-in, the newly appointed DIGs paid a visit to President William Ruto at Statehouse Mombasa, where they were warmly received.
During his inaugural address at the ceremony today, DIG Masengeli expressed profound gratitude to President William S. Ruto, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, for his appointment and the successful vetting by the National Police Service Commission.
“I am honored and humbled by this appointment and the trust placed in me,” said Masengeli. He further emphasized his dedication to fostering teamwork through a multi-agency approach to ensure the peace and security of all Kenyans. “We are committed to working together to uphold the safety and security of our nation,” he added.
Mr. Masengeli succeeds Mr. James Kamau, SAIG, who had been serving as the Acting DIG-APS. In his new role, Masengeli will also temporarily oversee the responsibilities of the Inspector General of the National Police Service. This interim role will continue until former Acting IG Douglas Kanja Kirocho completes his Parliamentary vetting process following his nomination by President Ruto.
The ceremony was attended by numerous officers from the APS, marking a day of significant leadership transition within the force.
