The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) of Kenya is set to acquire 1.65 million bags of fertilizer to bolster the country’s ongoing fertilizer subsidy program aimed at supporting local farmers. The consignment will include 1.06 million bags of planting fertilizer and an additional 597,000 bags of top-dressing fertilizer, providing a substantial supply to enhance agricultural productivity.
The fertilizer will be offered at subsidized rates, ranging from KSh 1,775 to KSh 3,500 per 50-kilogram bag, depending on the type and application of the fertilizer. This move is part of a broader government strategy to reduce farming costs and increase crop yields across the country.
The Kenyan government has allocated a budget of KSh 10 billion for this subsidy program, underscoring its commitment to improving food security and stabilizing agricultural inputs for farmers facing high market prices. By reducing the cost burden on farmers, the initiative is expected to boost production and stabilize the supply of essential food items in the country.
