Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has taken decisive action against a kiosk at the Nairobi bus station due to its severely unhygienic conditions. The kiosk, which was preparing and cooking kebabs, eggs, and smokies for sale to small retailers and hawkers, was shut down indefinitely after a routine inspection on Thursday evening.

Mosiria, accompanied by public health and environment officials, found the kiosk in a deplorable state, with blackened cooking oil, strong unpleasant odors, and an overall filthy environment. These conditions posed serious health risks to consumers, prompting the closure.

“The kiosk was discovered to be in a dire state of cleanliness, with blackened cooking oil, strong unpleasant odors, and an overall filthy environment, which posed serious health risks,” Mosiria stated.

The officer emphasized that the closure will remain in effect until the kiosk meets Nairobi County’s stringent health and safety regulations. This action underscores Governor Johnson Sakaja’s commitment to maintaining public health and safety within the city.

Mosiria also urged residents, hawkers, and vendors to take an active role in ensuring cleanliness across Nairobi County. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, noting that this closure serves as a stern warning to all food vendors to uphold high standards of hygiene.
