Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi aka Sonko has urged President William Ruto to reject the Finance Bill 2024 and return it to the National Assembly for the sake of the nation.

Writing on X on Wednesday morning in the aftermath of the demonstrations that were violently dispersed by Police and resulted in the death of several protestors, Sonko told his “good friends in Statehouse” that the demons were a wake-up call and that his own son had participated in the demos.

“My own son alienda demo last week na jana,” he said. “Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit’s son alishuka kwa gari to join his Gen Z mates kwa demo, Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri’s son, Nairobi Regional police commander Adamson Bungei’s son, was also spotted participating in the demos. Many parents countrywide gave their kids a go-ahead and blessings to join the protests. What does that tell you?”

Sonko said that he had witnessed a big number of teens, both male and female, heading to town to join the demos as they felt it was their time and it could not be stopped. He claimed that the demonstrations witnessed yesterday were the biggest in the history of East Africa.

He urged Ruto to stop listening to his Statehouse advisors as they were preaching contempt and using people badly during campaigns and they should know that the time they were using lies and fake promises to gain power was gone. “I’m very happy wacha watu wengine kwa hiyo ikulu kama Kina Faruk Kibet and other advisors etc etc. waache kiburi na matharao na kutumia watu vibaya during campaigns wajue wakati they were looking for power using lies and fake promises to the people umeisha. They should know power lies with the people and not their conmanship tactics. You can lie to people, but you can’t lie to them every day. You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you can not fool all the people all the time. -Abraham Lincoln”

Sonko advised his “good friend” the President that if he truly has the county in his heart and he swore by the Bible at Kasarani to protect the people of Kenya through the Constitution, then he should return the Finance Bill “back to sender” in Parliament.
