A madrasa teacher in Nairobi is calling for justice after his house was raided and some of his belongings taken by individuals he claims are members of the mosque committee.
Ustadh Khatwib Haji of Liwo Mosque in Lang’ata, Nairobi, said he has been serving at the mosque for over 15 years and accused certain mosque leaders of orchestrating a plan to evict him from his residence without paying his outstanding salary arrears.
Flanked by his wife, Mariam Wanje Ziro, Haji recounted how the raiders stormed their home in December last year, seizing their belongings in what he believes was an attempt to forcefully evict them.
“They claimed to be auctioneers and said I owed them a debt of Sh570,000, but I had only paid Sh19,000. To my knowledge, the mosque’s houses are not rented, so I don’t owe any debt,” Ustadh Haji explained.

He further claimed that during the raid, the intruders took personal items, including his children’s birth and academic documents, utensils, chairs, and mattresses.
Haji reported the incident to Lang’ata Police Station and the local chief’s office, where it was recorded in an occurrence book (OB). He was given an OB number but expressed his frustration that no action had been taken by the police to arrest the raiders.
The OB number for the report, lodged at Lang’ata Police Station, is 40/18/12/23.
Haji, who previously taught madrasa in Malindi, Kilifi County, before being brought to the mosque by a committee member, said he has been teaching children the Quran for years. He also mentioned that he had been caring for around 15 children from underprivileged families who were now facing hardship due to the raid, as many essential items had been taken.
One mosque committee member, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that a raid had taken place at Ustadh Haji’s house. He added that the matter is currently under investigation by the Lang’ata police.
