The OCPD Kuria East, Migori County, is dead. Repots received by THEDISPATCH.DIGITAL earlier today said the officer accidentally shot himself in the thigh, severing a critical blood vessel and died due to excessive bleeding. Before he died, officers ha rushed him to the nearby Kegonga sub county hospital but there was no competent personnel to offer assistance before he was rushed to Migori County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The officer, whose name was disclosed as Supt. Mugo, was in a routine inspection of his firearm in at the Kegonga Police Division in the presence of the police armourer when the weapon went off. The bullet reportedly went through his lower body, rapturing the vessel and killing him.

When news of the incident go out, residents said officers in Kuria East and Ntimaru sub counties had made it a habit to move around the shopping centres with fully loaded weapons and even go drinking in bars and other entertainment joints while armed thus endangering their lives.

Police at Keginga were recently in the news when they pursued and shot dead a local teacher for unlclear reasons. Despite locals protesting and holding demonstrations, police continued their habits of terrorising residents and extorting money from them through arbitrary arrests and prosecutions on flimsy grounds or trumped up illicit liquor or Bhang possession.
