NAIROBI, Aug. 12 Kenya is set to enhance its collaboration with Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei to advance technology adoption across the country. Tonny Omwansa, CEO of the state-owned Kenya National Innovation Agency, announced the move on Monday during a forum discussing Kenya’s 10-year innovation masterplan.
“We are in the process of expanding our partnership with Chinese firms such as Huawei by leveraging their technology and infrastructure to improve the skill sets of Kenyans,” Omwansa stated. He emphasized Huawei’s significant role in promoting modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, among Kenyan students.
Omwansa further noted that Kenya is working with Huawei to develop policies aimed at accelerating the growth of the digital economy, drawing on the Chinese company’s extensive experience in technology.
Adam Lane, Director of Government Affairs at Huawei Kenya, highlighted the company’s efforts to support local innovators in creating solutions for individuals with special needs. He added that students are being trained to utilize Huawei Cloud to develop software that can diagnose and treat various health conditions.
