Veteran journalist and ‘Nation’ columnist Macharia Gaitho was forcibly arrested outside Karen Police Station on Wednesday morning, where he had driven to seek refuge.

A video captured by his son and broadcast by Citizen Digital shows Gaitho being forcibly bundled into a white car as uniformed police officers watched. Gaitho was reportedly driving with his son in Karen when he noticed a suspicious car trailing their vehicle and drove into Karen Police Station to seek refuge. Rather than intercept the trailers, Karen Police assisted the men in civilian clothes in forcing Gaitho into their car.

It was not immediately clear why Gaitho had been arrested, but online sources linked it to information published about the Kware murders, a case currently occupying the nation’s attention.
