Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised President William Ruto’s recent nominations for the “broad-based” Cabinet, emphasizing it as a victory for all Kenyans. He assured that no one region was sidelined, highlighting the satisfaction within the Mt Kenya region due to the inclusion of Mercy Wanjau, Secretary to the Cabinet.
Gachagua expressed these sentiments on Friday during the funeral of Susan Wanjohi, the mother of Mercy Wanjau, in Nyandarua, Laikipia County. The deceased Susan Wanjohi was mother to Mercy Wanjau, the Secretary to Cabinet. The DP urged Kenyans to embrace the new changes and refrain from criticism, defending the President’s decisions as beneficial for the nation.
“I have seen many people, all sorts of analysts, newspaper writers, and commentators discussing the gains and losses, which regions benefitted and which did not, who is strong and who is not,” Gachagua said. “I think the whole thing is a win for the people of Kenya, and for us in the region, we are very happy about Mercy’s appointment.”
The Deputy President also addressed and dismissed rumors about the dismissal of Mercy Wanjau. He confirmed her position remains intact, describing her as an efficient and humble public officer who effectively manages cabinet meetings.
“It is good to clarify because when the cabinet was dissolved, Mercy’s position remained intact, so there was no need to re-appoint her,” Gachagua stated. “I have a testimony because Mercy Wanjau works with us, a very efficient public officer who runs the cabinet properly; we see signs of a good upbringing.”
These comments come just two days after President Ruto announced the second batch of nominees to his new-look cabinet, which includes four senior opposition leaders, reflecting his vision for a broad-based government.
