On Wednesday night, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, made a surprise visit to Kilimani Police Station to assess its operations. The unannounced inspection allowed Lagat to observe how officers manage the station during night shifts. According to National Police Service spokesperson, Dr. Resila Onyango, many officers were caught off-guard by the impromptu visit.
Lagat emphasized the importance of service delivery to the public, urging officers to take responsibility for their actions. “You must take responsibility for every act you are doing,” he warned officers during the inspection. Unlike typical visits where senior officers greet him, this time Constable Joshua Kiai, the night duty report officer, welcomed him.
Accompanied by Nairobi Deputy Regional Police Commander Daniel Chacha, Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Kobia Bariu, and Station OCS Albert Chebii, Lagat inspected critical areas such as police cells, bathrooms, the armory, and the Gender and Child Protection Unit. He also advised officers to avoid engaging in corruption and urged them to maintain high ethical standards.
The visit follows similar unexpected inspections conducted at Mbale Police Station in Vihiga and Kondele Police Station in Kisumu the previous week. Lagat emphasized his continued commitment to ensuring officers serve the public diligently across the country.
