Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama’s home in Kehancha was yesterday attacked and vandalised by demonstrators protesting the passage of the Finance Bill 2024 by the National Assembly.
The MP, who along with Kuria Wes MP Mathias Nyamabe Robi voted ‘Yes’ for the controversial Finance Bill 2024, was not at home at the time of the attack, which was carried out by Gen Z protestors from both Kuria Wes and Kuria East sub counties. The protestors staged the attacked on his private property, which he was developing within Kehancha town, before proceeding to his home, which was broken into and ransacked. Protestors carted away household goods including furniture.
Kuria East voted for the UDA MP and President William Ruto but thee have been murmurs of discontent as there residents say there has bene little to show for supporting the Ruto administration. For several months, residents of Ntimaru West ward in Kuria East have been attacked, their properties destroyed and animals forcefully taken by warriors believed o have Ruto’s support and blessings from neighbouring Emurua Dikkir constituency in Nakrok, which is represented by Johana Ng’enpo, an ally of President Ruto. Several people have either been killed or maimed by the attacks, which have left farms unattended and families struck by poverty.
Kitayama was not one of the vocal proponents of the Bill, but he has largely been seen as a “see-no-evil-hear-no-evil” politician dependent on the random goodwill of Rut to get things done rather than going all out to speak up for his people. has been accused of not doing enough to address the insecurity issue, which one of the reasons he was targeted.
