Langata Residents Protest Over Noisy Club, Police Step In

Nairobi, Saturday – Residents of Langata Dam Estate and Freedom Heights took to the streets in protest against the loud noise emanating from the Paris Langata Club, located approximately 500 metres across the road. The demonstration, which began in the evening and extended into the night, saw residents chanting slogans such as “Hutalali, Tumechoka” (“We can’t sleep! We’re fed up”) outside the club.

The demonstrators expressed their frustration with the club’s management, claiming that despite numerous requests to lower the music volume or install soundproofing, their concerns had been ignored. “We’ve tried everything, but the management has not taken any action to address the noise. We are tired,” said one of the protestors.

The protest escalated when Nairobi County environment officers, led by Chief Officer, Environment, Geoffrey Mosoria, arrived at the scene to try and resolve the issue. However, a brief commotion occurred when the club’s bouncers reportedly attempted to block the officers from entering the premises. According to eyewitnesses, tensions flared as one of the bouncers allegedly assaulted residents and county officers with a rungu (baton).

Police from Langata Police Station were called to the scene to restore order, and the situation was eventually brought under control.

The residents have vowed to continue pressing for a solution, with many calling for stricter enforcement of noise regulations in the area.
