Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has labelled the university funding model a “disaster” and vowed to mobilise Kenyans to reject it. Speaking to a large crowd at Githurai roundabout, Musyoka criticised the Higher Education Funding Model, calling it “corrupt.”

“I will mobilise the country to say No! to the Higher Education Funding Model that is now a disaster and corrupt,” Musyoka declared.

The former Vice President, who is also the Wiper Party leader, asserted his position as the Official Opposition Leader. Earlier in the day, he had attended a Sunday service at the Kimbo PFEA Church in Githurai, accompanied by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, DAP-Kenya Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, among others.

Addressing the spirited crowd, who chanted “Ruto Must Go,” Musyoka promised that, if elected president in 2027, he would ensure free secondary and university education. He recalled how, under President Mwai Kibaki, they successfully implemented Free Primary Education, which has produced the Gen Zs who are transforming the country.

“Because of Gen Z and the Millennials, Kenya will never be the same again,” said Musyoka.

The Wiper leader also demanded answers following the “Githurai night of terror” on 25th June, when police allegedly killed young men and women while suppressing anti-finance bill protests. Musyoka claimed that nearly 300 people were murdered by police bullets, though the exact figures have not been disclosed.

Musyoka further criticised President William Ruto for reinstating ministers who had been ousted, positioning them in the Executive Office of the Presidency. He warned that if the Finance Bill 2024 was reintroduced, there would be renewed protests.

During the church service, Bishop James Wesonga called for national repentance to address the current challenges facing the country.
