In a significant victory against narcotics trafficking, a joint operation by detectives from Moi International Airport and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Mombasa resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of cannabis valued at over Sh13 million. The operation was set in motion following a tip-off from the public.
The operation targeted the Mariakani weighbridge, where police officers intercepted a silver Toyota Noah, registration number KBQ 605K. The vehicle, driven by Crispin Oduor Owino, with Caleb Otieno Agolo as his co-driver, was found to contain a substantial amount of narcotics. When it was inspected, police discovered sixteen sacks and 226 large sticks of cannabis sativa hidden within the vehicle.

Further investigation led to the discovery of an extra motor vehicle number plate, KBW 664P, concealed beneath the driver’s seat, suggesting potential involvement in further illicit activities. The suspects, along with the seized narcotics and the vehicle, were taken to Moi International Airport Police Station for further processing.
The government chemist confirmed that the confiscated substances were indeed cannabis sativa, with a total weight of 456 kilograms and an estimated street value of Sh13,680,000. The suspects are currently in custody as they await arraignment, while the vehicle and narcotics are being held as evidence.
