MP Farah Maalim has responded to summons issued by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and appeared at their offices to record a statement. Maalim, accused of inciting violence by suggesting that protesting Gen Z members should be shot in their thousands, presented himself in accordance with the NCIC’s earlier summon.
The controversial remarks, made in his Somali dialect and captured on video, have sparked widespread outrage. The backlash against Maalim includes an incident where he was ejected from a hotel at the Coast. The NCIC asserts that Maalim’s statements are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination, thus threatening harmonious coexistence among different political groups in Kenya, as outlined in Section 13 (1) (a) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
Following his statement recording, MP Maalim is expected to face charges in court.
